HS Codes & Country of Origin (“the app”, “we”) is a Shopify app that suggests customs codes for a store's products, checks US HTS codes against the official US tariff schedule, and writes the codes and the country of origin to the store's products. It is built and operated by Thallis Ribeiro, an individual developer in Brazil. Questions about this policy go to xthallis@gmail.com.

What the app reads

When you install the app, Shopify gives it two permissions: to read products, and to update inventory items (where Shopify keeps the HS code, the country-specific codes and the country of origin). The app reads:

  • product titles, product types, vendors, tags, descriptions and option names and values;
  • each variant's title, SKU, HS code, country-specific codes and country of origin.

The app never reads orders or customers, and has no permission to. It stores no personal data about your customers.

Where product data is sent

Anthropic. When you ask for a suggestion, the product's title, type, vendor, tags, description (the first 1,500 characters) and option names and values are sent to Anthropic's API, which runs the Claude model that writes the suggestion. Anthropic processes this data under its commercial terms for API customers.

USITC. To check a US HTS code, the app asks the US International Trade Commission's public tariff schedule API for the 4-digit heading of that code. Only the tariff code is sent; no product or store data.

Nothing is sold or shared for advertising.

What is stored, and for how long

  • Suggestions: for each suggestion, the product's ID and title, the suggested codes, the confidence, the reasoning, the result of the USITC check and whether you applied or dismissed it.
  • Coverage counts: the numbers from your last catalog scan (how many variants miss each code) and when it ran.
  • Catalog copy: each variant's product and variant title, SKU, IDs, codes and origin, replaced on every scan and deleted 48 hours after uninstall (shop/redact).
  • Session: the access token Shopify issues so the app can work in your admin.

When you uninstall, the session is deleted at once. Shopify then sends a deletion request (shop/redact) about 48 hours later, and every suggestion and coverage count for your store is deleted. If you reinstall within those 48 hours, your history is still there.

Codes you apply are written to your Shopify products. They stay there after you uninstall, like any other product data you edit.
