Email support

Write to xthallis@gmail.com. Your email goes straight to the developer, Thallis Ribeiro. To get a useful answer in one reply, include:

  • your store's .myshopify.com address,
  • what you were doing and what happened (a screenshot helps),
  • the serial number or order name, if it's about one unit.

The aim is a reply within two business days, Brazil time. That's a target, not a guaranteed response time.

Bought a product from a store that uses this app? Contact that store about your warranty or claim; the store decides on claims. For questions about your data, see the privacy policy.

Help by task

  2. Choose products and warranty length
  3. Capture serials while packing
  4. Print serials on packing slips
  5. Add the warranty pages to your store menu
  6. Plans and upgrading
  7. Emails
  8. Uninstall and data deletion

Install the app

The app isn't on the Shopify App Store yet. Ask to be notified, or write to xthallis@gmail.com, and you'll get one email when it's listed.

When you install, Shopify asks you to approve three permissions:

  • Read orders, to list the orders that need serials.
  • Write orders, to save serials in each order's warranty.serials metafield.
  • Read products, so you can pick the products that carry serials.

Then open the app from Apps in your Shopify admin. The dashboard lists the setup steps: choose products, capture serials, add the registration page to your store menu.

Choose products and warranty length

  1. In the app, open Products and pick the products that have serial numbers.
  2. Each product uses the default warranty: 12 months, unless you change the default in Settings. To give one product its own length, enter whole months from 0 to 240 next to it. Leave it empty to use the default.

Only tracked products appear when you capture serials. The warranty end is counted from the order date when the customer's serial is on one of your orders, and from the purchase date they enter when it isn't.

Capture serials while packing

  1. Open Capture serials. It lists recent orders with tracked products that still need serials.
  2. Type, paste or scan one serial per line, one line per unit. A barcode scanner that types like a keyboard works: it enters the code and moves to the next line.
  3. Save the order, or press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac) without leaving the keyboard.

An order saves only when every serial checks out: no more serials than units, none longer than 100 characters, and none already used on another order. If one fails, nothing is saved and the line says what to fix. Shopify shares the last 60 days of orders with apps, so capture serials at packing time.

Print serials on packing slips

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Settings → Shipping and delivery → Packing slip template.
  2. Paste this where the serials should appear, for example under the line items, and save:
{% if order.metafields.warranty.serials %}
  <p><strong>Serial numbers</strong><br>{{ order.metafields.warranty.serials | newline_to_br }}</p>
{% endif %}

Orders without captured serials print exactly as before.

Your store has three warranty pages. Their exact links are in the app under Settings, ready to copy:

  • Registration: /apps/warranty
  • Claims: /apps/warranty/claim
  • Claim status: /apps/warranty/status
  1. In your Shopify admin, open Online Store → Navigation and pick a menu, for example the footer menu.
  2. Click Add menu item, name it (for example “Register your product”) and paste the link.
  3. Repeat for the claim and status pages if you want them in the menu too, then save the menu.

The pages use your theme's header, footer, fonts and colors, so they look like the rest of your store.

Plans and upgrading

  • Free: up to 50 registrations a month, every feature.
  • Pro: $9.99 a month, unlimited registrations, charged through Shopify.

Customers can always register. After the 50th registration in a month, new ones are saved and confirmed to the customer, but their details stay masked in your admin. When you've used 40 of the 50, the dashboard shows an Upgrade to Pro link; approve the charge on Shopify's plan page and every masked registration unlocks. To upgrade before that, email xthallis@gmail.com for the direct link.

Emails

Settings shows whether the app's email is on. When it is, customers get a confirmation when they register, a receipt for each claim and an update when you reply or change a claim's status, and you get an alert at your store email for each new claim. Customer replies come to your store email.

To keep the app from being used to send spam, each store sends at most 60 customer emails triggered from the storefront and 300 emails from the admin side per day (UTC).

Uninstall and data deletion

  1. If you want to keep your records, open Registrations in the app and export the CSV first. It includes the registrations visible on your plan; registrations locked on the Free plan are not in it.
  2. In your Shopify admin, open Settings → Apps and sales channels, choose Serial & Warranty Tracker and uninstall it. Uninstalling also ends a Pro charge.

The app's access to your store is removed right away and the storefront warranty pages stop working. About 48 hours later Shopify asks the app to delete your store's data, and it deletes all of it: serials, registrations, claims, products and settings. Serials already saved on your orders stay in Shopify. Details are in the privacy policy.
